Concrete Pavers

Manufactured units, cast and pigmented to consistent dimensions, in the widest range of colors, shapes, and textures of anything here.

What It Is

What are concrete pavers?

A concrete paver pool deck is built from manufactured units: cast, pigmented, cured, and produced to consistent dimensions. Because they’re made rather than quarried, the range is enormous, with dozens of colors, shapes, textures, and edge profiles, in blends or single tones. They can be made to imitate stone or brick, or to look frankly like what they are. Every piece matches the next, which gives a paver deck a precision that natural stone can’t offer.

Concrete pavers suit a backyard where the design is doing specific work: matching a driveway, picking up a brick color from the house, running a border or a banding pattern, laying a strict geometric field. The uniformity is the point. If you’ve picked a color and want the finished deck to look like the sample, this is the material that delivers that.

It may be the wrong pick if you want the deck to be the natural element in the yard, or if barefoot comfort at midday is the single deciding factor. Most concrete pavers run warmer in direct sun than light natural stone.

  1. Style

Stone-look, brick-look, tumbled and antiqued, smooth flat-top, or large-format slab. The single biggest lever on how the deck reads. Tumbled looks traditional and forgiving; large-format smooth slabs read modern and calm.

  2. Color

Single tones and multi-color blends, in almost any palette. Lighter and cooler tones stay more comfortable underfoot. Blends hide dirt and settling better than a flat single color.

  3. Shape and size

Squares, rectangles, planks, or multi-piece pattern sets. Multi-piece sets give a random, hand-laid look; planks and large formats stretch a space visually.

  4. Edge profile

Beveled and chamfered, square and straight, or antiqued. Beveled edges catch shadow and read traditional. Square edges give the tight, seamless modern look.

  5. Thickness

Full-thickness for new work, or thin remodel pavers for overlay. Decides which projects the material suits and whether an existing deck has to come out. Thin remodel pavers run roughly one inch.

  6. Permeable options

Standard or permeable units. Permeable pavers let stormwater pass through the joints instead of running off, which is useful on tight lots and in areas with drainage requirements.

Why concrete pavers.

Nothing else lets you match a driveway, a roofline, and a pool deck this precisely.

Predictable

What you see in the sample is what shows up on the pallet, with no crate-to-crate variation to manage.

A real remodel path

Thin overlay pavers make resurfacing an old deck genuinely straightforward.

Repairable

FAQs

The six questions we hear most about paver decks.

Are concrete pavers hotter than travertine?

Generally yes, particularly in mid and dark tones. Light-colored pavers narrow the gap considerably, so if barefoot comfort matters, tone is the lever to pull.

What’s the white haze on my new pavers?

Efflorescence: natural salts drawn to the surface by moisture. It’s normal on new concrete, it isn’t a defect, and it typically weathers away over the first months or cleans off with a paver-specific cleaner.

Can pavers go over my existing concrete deck?

Yes. Thin remodel pavers are made for exactly that, along with coping profiles that cap the existing pool edge. The slab underneath has to be structurally sound first.

Will the color fade?

Some, over years in strong sun. Pigment is added to the concrete rather than being intrinsic to it, and how much a deck fades depends heavily on pigment quality and depth, which you cannot see in a showroom sample. Two decks that looked identical on day one can be visibly different at year eight.

What is edge restraint, and why does it matter?

A paver field is only as stable as its perimeter. Without proper restraint the outside courses migrate, joints open, and the field starts to spread. It’s invisible on day one and obvious by year three.

What should I ask any builder?

Three things. What edge restraint is being used? Can I see this line installed and weathered? Is this a full-thickness or overlay installation?
