A new pool for a home more than 120 years old — and every choice here was made to look like it had always belonged. The classic rectangle is finished in Cove Blue and ringed by a black-and-white checkerboard waterline, alternating Carbon black and Bianco white 6x6 tile in a pattern pulled straight from the estate's era. Mykonos marble bullnose coping flows into a full marble deck in matching 24x24, washing the whole courtyard in soft white veining beneath the live oaks, with white lattice walls and a trellised gate framing the garden beyond. No water features, no gadgets — just clean lines, real marble, and a pool that looks period-correct from the back porch.

Designer’s note

The owner’s of this amazing home were the real designers on this project. The hardest brief in pool building is adding something new to a century-old property without it reading as new. The answer here was restraint and material honesty: a simple rectangle placed tight to the house, a checkerboard waterline that echoes classic estate pools of the early 1900s, and genuine marble — not a lookalike paver — running from the coping across the entire deck so the pool terrace feels like original architecture. The palette stays strictly black, white, and water blue to match the home's lattice and ironwork. Sometimes the most impressive thing we can build is the one that looks like it was always there.
